Future-ready digital banking at ING

Who, what & where
Client: ING Bank
Sector: Financial
Domain: Digital platforms
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Goal
ING modernised its online banking platforms to give customers greater insight into their finances,. The challenge: to add forecasting and categorisation tools without compromising stability, performance or accessibility.
Our role
Front-end developer Mandy supported ING’s front-end team in developing new features for forecasting, spending insights, and automated payment categorisation. Modular frameworks, robust testing, and accessibility standards were used to keep the platform both flexible and reliable.
The approach was to quickly deliver visible improvements, without compromising long-term maintainability or user trust.
New features to make finances easier to understand included:
- Overview forecasting, showing upcoming debits and credits
- Payment categorisation, automatically tagging purchases so users could recognise and organise spending
- Spending insights to categorise expenditures, giving customers clarity on where their money went
Experimental feedback features during pilots helped ING assess functionality directly with customers
Result & impact
Customers gained accurate forecasting, clearer spending insights, and payment categorisation they could trust. Accessibility improvements ensured the platform worked for all users. For ING, the enhancements increased customer confidence and provided a stronger foundation for future digital banking services.
